The Miniature Schnauzer's outgoing personality and small size are some of the traits that have made the breed so popular. These terriers stand about 12 inches high and weigh between 13 and 20 pounds. While the only accepted colors in the breed standard are salt pepper, solid black, or black and silver, Mini Schnauzers can also be colored white, tan, rust, phantom, party, chocolate, speckled, and multi-colored. This breed has hair, not fur, so its coat needs to be cut. A significant grooming session will be necessary every four to six weeks or so.
Mini Schnauzers are feisty, energetic dogs that love to spend time with their owners. No matter what you're doing, they'll want to be with you, probably standing or sitting right at your feet. From the moment they wake up to the moment they go to sleep (with perhaps a few short naps in between), they're on the go. They will, however, be content to lounge on the floor or couch for a while—so long as you're lounging with them.
The Miniature Schnauzer's face is expressive. He will show you, as best he can, what he is thinking and feeling at all times. This dog definitely has a sense of humor and will amuse you whenever possible. A Mini Schnauzer can be a great asset to the life of a family or individual, bringing along energy, humor, and lots of love.
