Natural History
The fire salamander is found naturally in northwestern Africa, and central and southern Europe to western Asia. In the wild, these creatures live in damp woodland areas and spend most of their time hiding. They can be found in moss beds, leaf litter, tree stumps, burrows, and under decaying logs. Fire salamanders are colored black with yellow marbling and can grow to a length of almost 12 inches.
